Turks & Caicos
Whilst Grand Turk is the administrative centre of the islands, most visitors head for Providenciales (or Provo as it is usually known) which is part of the Caicos group.
A twelve mile stretch of white sand beach, known as Grace Bay, trails along the northern coastline of Provo, where you will find the majority of hotels. This is considered to be one of the best beaches in the Caribbean and the islands are surrounded by one of the largest coral reefs in the world, so are, not surprisingly, a mecca for serious divers, as well as those just wanting to try a little gentle snorkelling, attracted by the stunning and colourful coral underwater gardens.
The Princess Alexandra Marine Park is home to JoJo, the dolphin, the island’s most famous resident, who is one of the few dolphins in the world to voluntarily interact with humans!
The town centre of Turtle Cove has some up-market shopping and the island boasts some 50 restaurants. There are a few night spots on Provo as well as great entertainment provided by local bands playing calypso and reggae or the traditional island music with Haitian and African influences.
