Take a “walk on the wild side” during this escorted trip of a lifetime. Experience the river wildlife and see the orang-utans in the famous Sepilok orang-utan Sanctuary.
Day 1 Kota Kinabalu/Sandakan: Early morning flight to Sandakan. Proceed for 30 minutes to the Sepilok orang-utan Sanctuary, where orphaned and captive orang-utans are rehabilitated to return to the wild. Take a guided walk through the jungle to the feeding platform to hopefully catch a glimpse of these loveable creatures. Take an hour long boat cruise to the Lower Kinabatangan River Sanctuary, a wonderful journey of discovery starting from the waters of Sulu Sea of Sandakan Town through the magnificent scenery of the mangrove forest. Enjoy lunch at Abai Village before cruising up river to Sukau village in search of the Proboscis monkeys, birds and wildlife. Arrive Sukau, check into your river lodge. Late afternoon, an option to take another unforgettable river cruise to Menanggol River.
Day 2 Sandakan/Kota Kinabalu: After breakfast, cruise for 2 hours 30 minutes back to Sandakan watching for wildlife during the journey. Upon arrival visit the Water Village to see stilt houses occupied by native tribes, the Central Market and enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. Drive to the Puu Jih Syh Temple for a panoramic view of the Sandakan Bay before your return flight to Kota Kinabalu.
