The Li River winds like a green, silk belt through a landscape made up of limestone hills which rise dramatically from the river’s bank. Guilin is a thriving modern city, but it is the surrounding scenery, which is the main attraction. A boat trip down the river allows you to drink in the peace and tranquillity as you float by cormorant fishermen aboard bamboo rafts or the occasional water buffalo working the fields.
