What’s involved…

In order to marry in Thailand, you will need to plan on staying a minimum of four nights in Bangkok arriving, at the latest, on Monday evening. Three full working days are required to complete all the formalities and allowance must be made for public holidays, when government offices are closed. On arrival, you will be met by our representative, who will explain the procedure for obtaining the legal documentation. They will also confirm the exact timetable for the next few days.

You will be officially married whilst in Bangkok and our representative will arrange your transport and escort you throughout the process to all the appointments and the signing of the marriage documents. You will also be accompanied by a member of staff from a professional translation agency, who will deal with the government offices on your behalf ensuring that all the paperwork is completed correctly.

After the legal marriage has been completed, you may continue on to your chosen beach location for the marriage ceremony and blessing. The beach ceremony can be western style, but many couples opt for a more traditional Thai wedding package with a blessing from the monks. If you do choose this option, you should be aware that the ceremony will always take place in the morning. Monks are only permitted to eat before mid-day and an important part of the ceremony is the offering of Sung-Katan (food) to them.

We advise that you plan to have your wedding ceremony a few days after arrival in resort. Whilst we will, of course, confirm the majority of the arrangements in advance with the hotel, there may be decisions which can only be made on arrival. Allowing a few  days gives you the opportunity to meet with the hotel’s wedding co-ordinator, discuss the timetable, view the wedding location, consider any bouquet choices, finalise menu selections for a reception of friends or for an intimate dinner for two, decide on any optional photo and video packages and reconfirm the arrangements. The bride may also wish to make appointments locally to have hair and make up on the day. Some hotels have their own beauty salons whilst others may be able to make local recommendations.

In order to ensure that your special day runs smoothly, all weddings must be booked a minimum of 8 weeks prior to travel.

Deposit and payment

The non-refundable deposit for a wedding and holiday package is £300 per person. The final balance is due 8 weeks prior to departure. Weddings and holidays are subject to the terms of the Essential Information and Booking Agreement in the current Premier Faraway brochure.

Thailand Legal Requirements

Marriage Registration in Bangkok
Price: £495

The documentation required for your marriage to take place must be obtained in Bangkok. The marriage registration also takes place in Bangkok, so that by the time you leave the city, you will be officially married. Throughout the process, you will be escorted and assisted by our representative and a professional translator, who will ensure that all the legal processes are completed correctly.

The price for the marriage registration in Bangkok is additional to the price of any ceremony which you choose to have at the beach.

Original documents required

The above should be presented on the date of signing the affidavit at the consular section.

Documents required for registration of marriage

For the registration to take place all originals must be taken when travelling.

Minimum pre-book

Red tape, being what it is, the processing of documentation can take some time. We, therefore, require that weddings are booked a minimum of 8 weeks prior to departure date.

Minimum stay requirements

It is not possible to undertake any of the legal procedures at weekends or on public holidays. You should, therefore, plan your itinerary to ensure that you have three clear days in Bangkok during the week. We recommend that you stay a minimum of 4 nights in the city arriving, at the latest, on Monday evening, as this allows some leeway in case of unforeseen circumstances or public holidays.

Registration Procedures:

1st Day: 12:30 hours (Monday to Friday only). You will be taken to the British Embassy to sign your sworn affidavits in front of the consular officer in the British Embassy to say you are free to marry. Copies of your documents for the marriage registration are also officiated by the British Embassy; this is required by the Thai Ministry of Affairs. This process may involve some waiting, so you should allow 40 minutes to 2 hours.

2nd Day: Documents from the British Embassy are translated into Thai prior to your visit to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This will be a free day for you for sightseeing.

3rd Day: In the morning you will visit the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs to have the translated papers from the British Embassy officiated by the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In the afternoon we will then register your marriage at Phra – Nakhon District register office. This will take approximately 1 to 2 hours. The marriage certificate will then be issued. Once you receive this you will be officially married. The Thai certificate will then be translated into English in preparation for registration at the UK General Registry Office (GRO). This takes place at the British Embassy where the groom and the bride are required to sign to enter the marriage officially into the GRO.

The documents are kept by the embassy and sent to the UK by them for registration at the GRO. This process can take 3 to 4 months. The British Embassy will send the registration documents to the address given on your form.

Smart casual clothes should be worn for your appointments in Bangkok. Please do not wear vest tops or shorts.
