This is the only island state in the whole of the gulf and at around the size of Singapore, but less populated, is a relaxed and liberal place where Arabs and foreign ex-patriates mix easily. It isactually made up of about 33 islands, but Bahrain Island is the largest and the capital, Manama is where most people live. Pearling was the most important industry until the discovery of oil…and the rest is history!
