Borneo Beaches

Borneo Beaches

What better way to round off your Borneo adventure than with time to kick back and relax on a gorgeous beach.

Most of Borneo’s swathes of sand are clustered around Sabah and include the beaches of Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park, Tanjung Aru Beach and Pantai Dalit Beach.

Tunku Abdul Rahman is made up of five islands, including Gaya, where the enticements include idyllic beaches, dive and snorkelling sites amongst sprawling coral reefs, along with the chance to kayak or enjoy some light jungle trekking. Tanjung Aru Beach takes its name from the casuarina or aru trees that fringe the fine sands and is renowned for its amazing sunsets, while exquisite Pantai Dalit offers private expanses of soft white sand stretching almost as far as the eye can see.

On Sarawak, Telok Bandung faces the South China Sea and has a stunning backdrop of majestic Mount Santubong as well as dense tropical rainforest.

Sandakan

Sandakan

Once Sabah’s capital, Sandakan was heavily bombed during World War II and while much was destroyed, a scattering of religious relics and stunning colonial mansions can be seen.

It is however, the nearby attractions which provide most interest, including the world-famous Sepilok Orang-Utan Sanctuary, where visitors can watch these adorable animals close up in their natural habitat. A boardwalk leads to a viewing gallery and feeding platform where rangers feed the apes twice a day.

Also close by is the Rainforest Discovery Centre within the Kabili-Sepilok Forest Reserve, where you can stroll through the rainforest or along the canopy walkway.
