Cook Islands
A long way from anywhere else, the Cook Islands conjure up romantic pictures of tropical vistas, turquoise waters and idyllic beaches and those images are not far from the truth. Without doubt, this is a get-away-from-it-all paradise where “time” takes on a whole new meaning and unless you have a plane to catch, leave your watch behind and just chill.
Rarotonga: One of the most beautiful of the Cook islands, Rarotonga, in the Southern Group, is the largest and offers a unique blend of Polynesia and the west. Rugged green mountains covered in jungle, mango groves and coconut trees rise from the turquoise lagoon which hides the secret coral world beneath. When in Rarotonga, remember you are on Cook Islands time and the only thing you need to do is relax and enjoy the views.
Aitutaki: The highlight of any visit to Aitutaki is its amazing coral lagoon. Viewed from the air, the lagoon is scattered with little motus with coral just beneath the surface. The second most visited island in the Cooks, snorkelling is, not surprisingly, popular and it’s imperative to take a cruise around the lagoon stopping at a few of the uninhabited islands for sunbathing and snorkelling.
