A spectacular island, the most lush and verdant - known as ‘The Island of Discovery ’ Kauai’s most popular and sunniest areas are on the south and east coasts.
Lihue: Visit Kilohana, a legendary plantation estate and home of lush gardens, a working farm as well as shops and a restaurant.
Waimea Canyon: The ‘Grand Canyon of the Pacific’, is one of the island’s best known landmarks. The road journey leads to several look out points with amazing views of the island’s dramatic interior. The main route leads to Kokee State Park, where hikers can take one of many trails. Alternatively, view it from above on one of the many helicopter tours.
Napali coastline: Along the north shore of Kauai, the cliff top hiking trail offers stunning vistas of the Pacific Ocean. The route can be challenging, but is most certainly worth the effort. However, if you’re not a walker, boat trips allow you to view the spectacular coastline from the sea.
Wailua River: Kauai has the only navigable rivers in the islands and the Wailua River weaves past cascading waterfalls and jungle landscapes along the east coast. From here, take a boat trip into the Fern Grotto – a natural lava rock sheltered by draping ferns – a popular, romantic wedding venue.
