Captivating culture, untouched desert, magnificent beaches – Abu Dhabi is very much the Arabia of your imagination. Combining glitz and glamour with a distinctive Arabian ambiance, this intriguing emirate is located in the UAE and will inspire, entertain and astound you all at once!
As well as a stand-alone destination, Abu Dhabi makes for a perfect stopover for those travelling onwards to the Far East, India and Australia. Looking for somewhere different for a city break? Abu Dhabi is just a seven-hour flight from the UK so you can easily hop over for three or four nights.
Here are our top 5 reasons why you should put Abu Dhabi at the top of your travel list…
1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix
Combine a stay in the city with one of the most important events on its calendar – the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Be at the heart of the action at the state-of-the-art Yas Marina Circuit, where the F1 is held every year. Our packages include entry to practice and qualifying, the main race, after show concerts, and travel and accommodation. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the first Abu Dhabi Grand Prix – even more reason to experience it!
2 Sheik Zayed Grand Mosque
Discover more about Abu Dhabi’s religion and traditions at the stunning Sheik Zayed Grand Mosque, which came third in TripAdvisor’s list of the world’s top 25 landmarks. The architectural marvel features 80 domes, more than 1,000 columns, gold-plated chandeliers and the world’s largest hand woven carpet. It’s free to enter and open to members of all religious faiths. 3 Beach heaven
Soak up some beach bliss on Abu Dhabi’s golden shores. It’s home to a number of top beach destinations including Saadiyat Island - which has a magnificent beach - and Yas Beach on Yas Island, which is ideal for families with a children’s pool and lots of activities. There’s also Zaya Nurai Island, a private island resort that can be reached in 15 minutes by speedboat. The Corniche is another area to soak up some rays; located in the beating heart of the city, the 8km promenade boasts beaches, cafes and children’s play areas.
4 Yas Island
Even if you don’t attend the F1, it’s still worth heading over to Yas Island for its unique leisure and entertainment experiences. Thrill-seekers will love Ferrari World Abu Dhabi – highlights include the world’s fastest rollercoaster and the world’s highest inverted loop. Children and adults alike will also be kept entertained at Warner Bros. World and Yas Waterworld. You will also find dozens of restaurants and bars along the waterside promenade of the marina, along with stunning views of the F1 circuit and a flotilla of superyachts.
5 Arabian desert
Arabian adventures are aplenty in Abu Dhabi! You don’t have to venture far from the city before the vast sands of the desert take hold. Made famous by British explorer Sir Wilfred Thesiger, the Empty Quarter is the largest expanse of sand in the world and was recently featured in the movie Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Make a day trip to experience these majestic sands and enjoy a host of exhilarating activities, from camel trekking to dune bashing. Spend a night or two at one of the gorgeous desert resorts such as Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort by Anantara or the new Jumeirah Al Wathba Desert Resort and Spa.
