Gunung Mulu National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site featured on the BBC’s Planet Earth, is one of nature's most spectacular achievements. Covering 210 square miles of rainforest, it's home to the world's largest cave system, including four show caves accessible by wooden walkways, and the mesmerising nightly bat exodus from Deer Cave. Above ground, enjoy the 1,570-foot rainforest canopy skywalk or trek to the razor-sharp limestone Pinnacles on Gunung Api's slopes.
Mulu is not strongly affected by the monsoon season that much of the region experiences. However, July-September are the driest and hottest months and October-January and May-June are the wettest.
There are no direct flights from the UK to Sandakan. The flight from Kota Kinabalu to Mulu takes around 1 hour, while from the Kuching the flight time is 1 hour 30 minutes.
