Once a sleepy backwater, Siem Reap has boomed thanks to its proximity to Angkor, blending sophisticated hotels and dining with preserved local culture. Nearby lies the UNESCO-listed Angkor complex, a 9th-century wonder centred on Angkor Wat, the world's largest religious monument, alongside walled Angkor Thom with its Bayon faces, and jungle-clad Ta Prohm. Beyond the temples, explore Tonle Sap's floating villages and rich birdlife at Prek Toal. By evening, Siem Reap offers everything from hawker stalls to fine dining around Pub Street, plus traditional Apsara dance performances.
