Alaska, Yukon & Manitoba holidays in Canada

Romantically known as the Last Frontier, the US state of Alaska is a wild and spectacular wilderness with vast landscapes of unfathomable natural beauty that seemingly stretch to infinity.

Most begin an Alaskan adventure in Anchorage, which is handy for Denali National Park, Alaska’s most popular attraction and home to Mount McKinley, North America’s tallest peak, as well as an intact terrain of glacial rivers, massive peaks and tundra. Alaska, Yukon & Manitoba Travel Guide

Best time to go

The best time to visit Alaska and the Yukon is mid-May to mid-September as the days are long and temperatures surprisingly pleasant, although there is a chance of rain too. However, temperatures vary wildly depending on which region you plan to visit, with visitors sometimes experiencing all four seasons in one day! Your best chance of seeing the Northern Lights is during the cold, winter nights between September and April. In winter in Churchill, you can expect temperatures to range from a high of around -15°C to a low of -24°C (although the windchill can make that feel much colder). If you’re photographing the Northern Lights at night, prepare for extremely cold conditions. Spring in Churchill is quite cold as well, and while summer weather is warmer it can still bring cold and rain. Autumn (which is polar bear season) brings the same cooler temperatures as spring, but average temperatures will drop by November.

Visas

If you are eligible to enter the USA under the Visa Waiver Programme, you will need to obtain an electronic travel authorisation (ESTA) prior to travel. Please ask for details
