Prince Edward Island may be Canada's smallest province, but it has many delights, from invigorating ocean adventures and incredible red sand beaches to green pastoral landscapes. Its capital, Charlottetown, was where Canada was founded, so there's history aplenty amidst its graceful homes, colourful storefronts and charming lighthouses.
The town of Cavendish is a special place for lovers of Anne of Green Gables and it's easy to see why author LM Montgomery was inspired in this magical setting.
Prince Edward Island is also known for its breathtaking coastal drives, each dishing up a medley of island scenery, quaint towns, fruit-filled orchards and historic sites.
Summer is typically warm with temperatures hovering around 20-25ºC, and while it's cooler in spring and autumn with rain, there's still mild, sunny days for outdoor explorations. Snow can be expected between November and April.
For Charlottetown, connecting flights are available from Halifax, Nova Scotia, although most visitors incorporate a visit here as part of a regional self-drive tour.
