Venture to Canada's easternmost provinces on this epic escorted adventure. From Halifax cross Cape Breton Island by ferry to Newfoundland, then journey through the fjords and mountains of Gros Morne National Park to Labrador itself, where the Red Bay whaling station tells tales of the 16th century. Step back a thousand years at L'Anse aux Meadows, watch for whales and icebergs off the northern coast and explore the colourful outport towns of Twillingate and Trinity. Finish in historic St John's, North America's oldest city and the continent's most easterly point. Ancient history, dramatic coastlines and wild Atlantic wilderness - the ultimate Newfoundland and Labrador circuit.

Our suggested itinerary is a starting point

We're specialists in tailor-made holidays, where we can adapt each itinerary to suit your requirements

Day 1 Halifax

On arrival, transfer independently to your hotel. This evening, get acquainted with fellow travelling companions during a welcome reception.

Day 2 North Sydney-Port aux Basques ferry

Travel via Truro and Antigonish, crossing over the Canso Causeway to beautiful Cape Breton Island. In North Sydney board a Marine Atlantic ferry for a relaxing overnight crossing to Port aux Basques, your port of entry into Newfoundland.

Day 3 Port au Choix

Drive through the Cordroy Valley, framed by the Long Range Mountains, the Anguille Mountains, and the shores of the Atlantic Ocean. Your journey continues through Gros Morne National Park and into the fishing community of Port au Choix.

Day 4 L'Anse au Clair

Board a ferry at St Barbe and cross the Strait of Belle Island to Labrador. Visit Red Bay National Historic Site, location of a Basque whaling station in the 16th century.

Day 5 St Anthony

Return to Newfoundland and travel to L'Anse aux Meadows National Historic Site, an archaeological site marking the earliest known European settlement in North America. Now a protected UNESCO World Heritage Site, additional exhibits also showcase Viking artefacts and give a fascinating glimpse into the Viking lifestyle.

Days 6-7 Cow Head

This morning (weather-permitting) take a whale watching boat tour hoping for sightings of these giant marine mammals. During certain summer months massive icebergs can also be spotted, so don't forget your camera! Travel onwards to Cow Head. Visit Gros Morne National Park, which has a rich variety of scenery, wildlife, and recreational activities.

Embark on a scenic boat tour (weather permitting) to learn about the geology of the Tablelands, see the whales and bald eagles that frequent the deep waters of the fjord, and engage in the history of the small villages nestled along the shores.

Day 8 Gander

Travel through central Newfoundland towards Gander. A scenic drive along the coast of Notre Dame Bay leads you to the beautiful town of Twillingate. At the tip of the island visit the Long Point Lighthouse and, when back in Gander, visit the North Atlantic Aviation Museum.

Days 10-11 Clarenville

Today's route takes you along the Trans Canada Highway and through Terra Nova National Park, the most easterly of Canada's national parks. Keep an eye out for a variety of wildlife! Enjoy a visit to Cape Bonavista Lighthouse Provincial Park and the charming town of Trinity.

Day 12 St John's

Continue on to the intriguing old seaport of St John's. North America's oldest city and Newfoundland's capital boasts a stunning location in the granite cliffs and slopes of the Avalon Peninsula. Enjoy a city tour featuring the Victorian architecture of the downtown area, the busy modern waterfront, the Cathedral of St John the Baptist, Confederation Building, and the panoramic view from Signal Hill.

Travel to Bay Bulls for one of the highlights of the holiday - a boat tour in the Witless Bay Ecological Reserve (weather permitting) to search for puffins and other seabirds. Afterwards visit Cape Spear National Historic Site, the most easterly point in North America. The afternoon is at leisure to further explore the neighbourhoods and delights of St John’s.

Day 13 St John's

Time for last-minute shopping and farewells before you make your way to the airport for your onward journey.
