The remainder of the day is free for you to relax or explore independently.
Day 4 Kuala Lumpur
Sightsee and shop as you wish. For skyline views head to the skybridge linking the two Petronas Twin Towers, perhaps stroll around a bustling market or, for an inexpensive feast follow your nose to the array of traditional street stalls.
Day 5 Kuala Lumpur
Travel by road to the Cameron Highlands, a former weekend retreat during the British colonial rule. The route offers views of the highlands, waterfalls, streams, giant tree-ferns as well as local life. On arrival this afternoon you are free to relax amidst the splendid surroundings (approx 3½ hours drive).
Day 6 Cameron Highlands
This morning, visit fruit and vegetable farms, a flower garden, Sam Poh Temple and a tea plantation to learn about the tea making process. The afternoon is yours to explore, perhaps enjoy afternoon tea at The Lakehouse, or maybe play a round of golf (both at extra expense).
Day 7 Cameron Highlands
All too soon it is time to bid farewell to the splendid scenery of the Cameron Highlands and set off by road to Penang and to the prestigious Eastern & Oriental Hotel. Established in 1885 during the spice trade era, it stands as a testament to the grand elegance of the British colonial era and its name is synonymous with Penang (approx 4 hours drive).
Day 8 Penang
Step out this morning for a guided Historical George Town tour which starts at The Reclining Buddha statue (Wat Chayamangkalaram). Proceed to Dhammikarama Temple, an elaborate Buddhist temple dating to 1803 and then drive past the Street of Harmony which is home to St George's Anglican church. You will also pass Kuan Yin (Goddess of Mercy Temple), Sri Mariamman Temple and Masjid Kapitan Keling before stopping to explore the highly ornate clan house of Khoo Kongsi and enjoy a visit to a local coffee shop.
The tour concludes with a brief photo stop at Fort Cornwallis. The afternoon is free for you to continue sightseeing independently. Perhaps seek out some of the city's eye-catching street art; stroll through the maze of chaotic streets and narrow lanes passing fragrant spice shops and decorative shrines; or, maybe walk around one of the Clan Jetties, unique Chinese water villages, which 'float' above the water on stilts. When in need of a break you will find ample coffee shops, trendy bars and inviting street stalls.
Day 9 Penang
At leisure until your transfer to Penang airport for your onward journey. Alternatively, why not extend with a Penang beach stay at Shangri-La's Rasa Sayang?
