Bustling Stornoway has streets lined with Victorian homes as well as artisan shops, amazing eateries and historic Lews Castle which was completed in 1854 and today houses a museum. Ness is the stronghold of the local language while in Uig you can taste the true spirit of the islands at the Uig Abhainn Dearg Distillery, where workers follow time honoured traditions to produce this well-loved "water of life".
With their northerly location, the best time to visit is between March and November, with the long days of summer a particularly appealing time.
