At 50 miles long, the Isle of Skye is the largest of the Inner Hebrides. Its capital is Portree, and other notable villages include Dunvegan, Uig, Staffin and Broadford. The island’s rich history takes in dinosaur fossils, clan warfare and the story of Bonnie Prince Charlie and the Jacobite Rebellion. It’s great for wildlife watching and is a world-class destination for walkers and climbers.
Most visitors arrive over the Skye Bridge. Close by on the mainland is Eilean Donan Castle, said to be the most photographed castle in Scotland. Once on the island, you can explore landscapes of unfathomable beauty, from the emerald mounds of Faerie Glen to the Quiraing, a backdrop that has featured in numerous films and TV productions.
