Start in Cape Town where you can take the cable car up Table Mountain, exploring Robben Island and thrive in the buzz of the V&A Waterfront. Collect your hire car for the Cape Winelands and gaze at the vine-clad estates of Franschhoek or Stellenbosch before setting off along the glorious Garden Route. Unwind on the golden sands of Plettenberg Bay, then finish among the ziplines, suspension bridges and lush trails of Tsitsikamma National Park. Mountains, wine and coastline - this is South Africa's greatest road trip, entirely at your own pace.

Days 1-3 Cape Town
Fly to Cape Town. On arrival transfer to your hotel. Explore Cape Town at leisure. If the weather is fair, take the cable car up Table Mountain, hop on a ferry across to Robben Island, soak up the hustle and bustle of the V&A Waterfront.
Days 4-5 Winelands
Collect your hire car for the short drive to either Franschhoek or Stellenbosch. Explore some of the many wine estates which adorn the vine-swept landscape. The region is also a top foodie spot, so you’re in for a treat. Savour the passing scenery as you drive out of the Winelands and along the glorious Garden Route. It’s around a six hour drive, with ample scenic spots to stop at for a stroll and to enjoy refreshments.
Days 6-8 Plettenberg Bay
Simply unwind on the golden beaches or, if you prefer to be more active, explore coastal walking trails at nearby Robberg Nature Reserve, go sailing, hire a bike or maybe even scuba dive.
Days 10-11 Tsitsikamma
It's a short 45 minute drive to stunning Tsitsikamma National Park where thrill seekers can swing from the treetops on ziplines, cross the Storms River Suspension Bridge or take the plunge with a bungee jump. Discover walking trails, go birdwatching, horse riding or kayaking or simply absorb the glorious scenery.
Day 12 Gqeberha
Return your car at the airport and your tour ends. Or, extend your stay at an Eastern Cape game reserve, see pages 31-35.
