Days 1-4 Hanoi
Fly to Hanoi. On arrival transfer to your hotel, the rest of the day is at leisure. Why not book an optional evening Vespa Tour? Begin with a walk along Hanoi's back streets for a glimpse of city life before a short train ride across the Red River. This afternoon, visit Ho Chi Minh's former residence, the One Pillar Pagoda, the Temple of Literature and the Lake of Restored Sword. A cyclo tour of the Old Quarter is a relaxing way to end the day and includes a stop at an ancient Vietnamese "long house".
Don't miss the chance to see an iconic water puppet show. On day 4, enjoy a full day at leisure for you to explore as you wish.
Days 4-5 Halong Bay Cruise
Drive to Halong Bay (approx 2½ hours drive) and spend a night aboard a wooden sailing junk for a cruise among the hundreds of islets of Halong Bay. The next day, disembark and transfer by road to Hanoi airport for a flight to Hue. On arrival, you can relax or explore independently.
Days 5-7 Hue
Uncover centuries of imperial grandeur from the sacred Thien Mu Pagoda and the storied Royal Citadel, to the breathtaking tombs of Emperors Khai Dinh and Tu Duc, each a masterpiece of history, art, and legend.
Days 7-9 Hoi An
Drive to Hoi An (approx 3½ hours drive) stopping in Danang enroute to visit the Cham Museum and Marble Mountain. Arrive Hoi An late afternoon. Visit a family-run lantern making business where you design and make your own before a walking tour of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Highlights include ancient merchants' houses, the Phuc Kien Assembly Hall, the 400-year-old Japanese Covered Bridge and vibrant riverside market.
Days 9-10 Can Tho
Fly from Danang to Can Tho. Visit a Khmer pagoda, the Can Tho Museum and enjoy a walk to Gian Gua pilgrimage site.
Days 10-11 Mekong Delta Cruise
Embark on your cruise aboard the Bassac riverboat. Cruise to Cho Lach passing numerous laden river barges. After lunch on board, stop for brief walking tours of villages lining the river. Dock at Tra On with an overnight stay on board.
Days 11-13 Ho Chi Minh City
An early morning cruise to the bustling floating market at Cai Rang. Disembark at Can Tho and explore the local market before driving to Ho Chi Minh City (approx 2½ hours drive). Visit the Cu Chi Tunnels (approx 1½ hours drive), an amazing labyrinth of narrow passages used by the Vietnamese army as living quarters, hospitals and escape routes. You have an option to join a guide to explore a short stretch of the tunnels.
In the afternoon, return to Ho Chi Minh City and visit the Reunification Palace, Notre Dame Cathedral, the Central Post Office, Chinatown, the Quan Am Pagoda and the Binh Tay Market. Coffee lovers may wish to take a morning tour of the Vietnam Barista School and visit to the famous Vot Cafe, where local enjoy their coffee (extra expense).
Day 14 Ho Chi Minh City
Transfer to the airport for your onward journey, or alternatively extend your holiday. After day 9, why not spend time by the beach in Hoi An or Quy Nhon? Or before flying home, add on time at a choice of beach resorts: Ho Tram or Mui Ne.
