Day 1 Jakarta: Fly to Jakarta.
Day 2 Jakarta: On arrival at Jakarta International airport you will be met and transferred to your hotel.
Day 3 Jakarta/Bandung: Leave Jakarta behind and travel to the Bogor Botanical Gardens which is home to a huge variety of trees, palms, bamboo, plants and orchids. The journey continues up into the hills passing mile upon mile of plantations en route to Bandung, the capital of west Java which is surrounded by volcanoes and mountain ranges (approx 120 miles/3½ hours drive).
Day 4 Bandung: Travel north into the hills where you’ll visit the colourful fruit and vegetable market at Lembang. Climb higher into the mountains to the rim of Gunung Tangkuban Perahu, a volcanic crater which, on clear days, offers spectacular views of the valley. If time permits enjoy a dip in the hot mineral water pools (additional cost) before travelling on to Padasuka Village.
Day 5 Bandung/Batu Raden: Today’s first stop is Naga Village, a traditional West Javan village with houses built on stilts made of wood, bamboo and palm fibre.
Observe the simple way of life here and how the villagers work the terraces by hand. Pass numerous rubber and coconut palm plantations as you make your way to Batu Raden, a cool hillside resort in Central Java (approx 106 miles/ 4 hours drive).p>
Day 6 Batu Raden/Yogyakarta: Pass bright green rice terraces before the steep climb up to the Dieng Plateau, a mysterious world of swirling mists, Hindu temple ruins, hot geysers, bubbling mud and sulphurous lakes. In the late afternoon visit Borobudur, one of the world’s most famous Buddhist temples, dating from the 8th century. Finally, make your way to the fascinating town of Yogyakarta (approx 78 miles/4 hours drive.
Day 7 Yogyakarta: This morning’s tour begins with the Sultan’s Palace which was built in 1755 and has exquisite, ornately decorated pavilions. See some of Yogyakarta’s skilled craftsmen at work before a “Wayang Kulit” shadow puppet performance. Finally, visit the Hindu temple of Prambanan before the chance to relax as the remainder of the day is at leisure.
Day 8 Yogyakarta/Malang: Spend the day travelling to East Java (approx 100 miles/5 hours drive).
Day 9 Malang/Bromo: The morning is at leisure. After lunch, explore the city of Malang, an old colonial town. Visit the Chinese Temple, Bird Market and Ceramic Cinoyo before driving to Sukapura Village on the slopes of Mount Bromo (approx 32 miles/4 hours drive).
Day 10 Bromo/Kalibaru: Early morning wake up call so that you can see the spectacular sunrise (subject to weather conditions). Ensure you have some warm clothing, as you will be over 6,500 feet above sea level. As you leave the hotel in jeeps, you’ll ascend the mountain to enjoy a moonlit view of the Bromo caldera. Once it’s light you’ll drive down to the crater floor, which is known as the “sand sea” with its desertlike terrain. Stopping at the foot of Mount Bromo either walk the 245 steps to the top (or alternatively, hire a horse - additional cost) and look down into bubbling water, ash and sulphur inside the crater below you. Return to the hotel for breakfast before departing to Kalibaru passing picturesque countryside, rural villages, tobacco drying houses and thick tropical forest (approx 106 miles/5 hours drive).
Day 11 Kalibaru/Bali: Enjoy a short plantation tour around the villages and drive to Ketapang harbour to board the ferry for the crossing of the shallow Bali strait which concludes the tour (approx 44 miles/2 hour drive and 1 hour by ferry). Alternatively, why not extend your stay at one of our beach hotels.
