Day 1: Fly to Tokyo.
Day 2 Tokyo: On arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure to relax or, alternatively, why not begin your explorations of Tokyo, a city where neon-lit skyscrapers rub shoulders with historic temples and attractive gardens.
Day 3 Tokyo: Set off for a day tour of this bustling and energetic city which will take in popular landmarks including Senso-ji Temple and Nakamise Street, one of the oldest shopping streets in Japan. In Asakusa, enjoy the view from the observation deck at Tokyo Tower, which measures 332.9 metres and is the second-tallest structure in Japan. Later, enjoy a stroll in the Ginza district, the luxury shopping and entertainment district of Tokyo before the tour concludes with a visit to Meiji-Jingu Shrine.
Day 4 Tokyo/Atami: Today you will tour Mt. Fuji and Hakone, spending time at Mt. Fuji 5th station (if weather permits) and visiting the historical Hakone Sekisho to learn about this old imperial checkpoint. Enjoy a leisurely cruise on Lake Ashinoko and take the Komogatake Ropeway which is a Japanese aerial lift offering spectacular views of the surrounding area. Finally you will be transferred to your hotel in Atami.
Day 5 Atami/Kyoto: After breakfast transfer to the train station with your tour guide to take the bullet train to Kyoto, a city home to 17 UNESCO World Heritage sites. Upon arrival you will transfer to Nara and visit Todaiji Temple (Great Buddha), the picturesque Nara Park, home to hundreds of freely roaming deer and Kasuga Taisha Shrine. Finally you will transfer to the cultural city of Kyoto.
Day 6 Kyoto: Today’s tour of Kyoto includes Nijo Castle which was built in 1603. Spend time at Kinkakuji Temple (Golden Pavilion), Ryoanji Temple, the site of Japan’s most famous rock garden, and the stunning Kiyomizudera Temple, a celebrated temple offering wonderful views of Kyoto. Finally, visit a sake brewery and enjoy a tour and sake tasting. This evening, you may wish to stroll around the Gion district where you may come across a Geisha wearing traditional kimonos.
Day 7 Kyoto/Hiroshima: Morning transfer to the station to take the bullet train to Hiroshima. Upon arrival, take the 10 minute ferry to the island of Miyajima. On arrival you will walk to Itsukushima Shrine, best known for its “floating torii gate”, which is one of the most photographed locations in Japan. Spend time walking to the other sites located on the scenic island before you take the ferry back to Hiroshima and transfer to your hotel.
Day 8 Hiroshima/Osaka: This morning’s city coach tour includes Peace Park, Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum and the Atomic Bomb Dome. Continue by coach to the charming and historic city of Kurashiki for a tour of the old quarter and then travel onwards to Osaka, a city known for its modern architecture and hearty street food. In the heart of the city is the perfectly restored and very impressive Osakajo Castle, while at Umeda a huge underground mall houses many restaurants and fashion stores.
Day 9 Osaka: At leisure before your tour concludes with a transfer to the airport for your onward journey.
