Mandalay to Bagan 4 nights
Day 1 Mandalay/Amarapura: Afternoon transfer to the Sanctuary Ananada. Lunch is served on board as the ship cruises towards the pagoda sprinkled hills of Sagaing. After a brief stop at a local nunnery and orphanage continue to a silversmith workshop in the village of Ywataung. Next is Amarapura, a former capital and famous for cotton and silk weaving. Visit one of the textile workshops followed by the U Bein Bridge at sunset.
Day 2 Amarapura/Mingun: Early this morning sail north to the quaint village of Sin Kyun, where you can take an optional tour to witness first hand the way of life in this unspoilt location seldom viewed by outsiders. Next, arrive in Mingun where an ox-cart will transport you through this sleepy and attractive village, stopping first stop at the unfinished Mingun pagoda. Nearby stands the massive Mingun Bell and lastly see a most unusual white pagoda known as Myatheindan (Hsinbyume). Return to the ship and relax as you sail south past villages set against a backdrop of soft browns, rich tamarind trees with white and golden pagodas gracing the distant hills. After lunch a variety of on board activities will be offered.
Day 3 Mingun/Bagan: This morning enjoy a cooking class with the chef, who will take you to the local market in Pakokku where mouthwatering fruit and vegetables are displayed. Visit a cheroot factory before returning to the Sanctuary Ananda for lunch and sail onwards to Bagan. This afternoon, visit the Ananda Temple, one of the four great temples in Bagan. Take in the sunset from the terraces of the Pyathatgyi Temple before returning to the ship.
Day 4 Bagan: You have the option to take an early morning balloon tour for a birds-eye view of the Bagan plain (additional expense) followed by breakfast on board. This morning visit the temples of Bagan before driving to the village of Wetkyi-in and the cave temple Kubyaukgyi. Enjoy lunch at Popa Mountain Resort and afterwards you may wish to slowly climb the 777 steps of Mount Popa, relishing the spectacular views. Return to the ship early evening before a candlelit sandbank dinner.
Day 5 Bagan: Disembark after breakfast and your tour concludes.
