Cape Town & Cape Coast

Duration: 7 nights self-drive tour

Price from: £699pp

Day 1: On arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel. The remainder of the day is at leisure in this historic city, which is regularly voted as one of the world's finest to visit.

Days 2-3 Cape Town: Two full days at leisure to sightsee and explore the Mother City. If weather permits take the cable car to the summit of Table Mountain and soak up the breathtakingly beautiful vistas. Back at ground level, your options include the bustling Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, fascinating museums such as the District Six, The Castle and Robben Island, which should be booked in advance. There's also Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, Camps Bay, nearby Boulders Beach and, within an hour, you can exchange urban landscapes for the charming towns, villages and bucolic estates of Winelands destinations such as Stellenbosch and Franschhoek.

Day 4 Cape Town/Paternoster: Collect your car this morning and travel onward to Paternoster, a small, quaint and picturesque fishing village which is located north of Cape Town along the West Coast. Paternoster, meaning "Our Father", derives its name from the prayers of ship-wrecked Portuguese sailors. Visitors to Paternoster delight in watching whales and dolphins frolicking in the ocean (ten months of the year) and after the first spring rains fall the landscape is transformed by the millions of indigenous flowers which open and densely carpet the earth in bright bursts of colour.

Day 5 Paternoster: Activities and attractions in the area include a beach buggy trip along the coastline, long walks on the beaches, fishing, boat and land based cray-fishing, diving and spear fishing excursions, hiking trails, mountain biking, sea kayaking.

Day 6 Paternoster/Namaqualand: Travel further north into Namaqualand, following the Wild Flower Route, where, if weather conditions are right, you can literally see flowering plants from horizon to horizon. It’s here that Namaqualand daisies and almost 4,000 floral species emerge in spring (July) until around October to offer one of the world’s greatest flower shows. We recommend you stop at the local tourist information bureau to find out where that year’s best flower displays are. You can arguably see wild flowers all over the Namaqualand, West Coast and Olifants River Valley, and towns such as Citrusdal, Lamberts Bay, Nieuwoudtville and Vredendal will  not disappoint either. Other points of interest include Springbok's Goegap Nature Reserve, Kamieskroon's Skilpad Wild Flower Reserve, Richtersveld National Park, the Hester Malan Wild Flower Garden and the Namaqua National Park.

Day 7 Namaqualand/Clanwilliam: Drive to the popular west coast town of Clanwilliam, a little hamlet resting at the foot of the Cederberg Mountain range, a little over two hours drive from Cape Town. Regarded as the only town in the world where rooibos is planted and cultivated, it is also famous for its locally made veldskoens or leather shoes.

Day 8 Clanwilliam/Cape Town: Travel to Cape Town and return your car at the airport where the tour concludes for your onward journey.
