Day 1 Pretoria: Depart Pretoria mid morning and travel south via Johannesburg through the gold fields of Witwatersrand and the broad grassland plains of the Highveld.
Day 2 Kimberley/Matjiesfontein: The train continues its journey this morning and after lunch reaches Kimberley, which is the capital of the Northern Cape and well known for the discovery of diamonds. This afternoon, enjoy a tour of the Diamond Mine Museum and Big Hole (the world's largest man-made excavation) . Return to the train and look forward to another delicious dinner.
Day 3 Matjiesfontein: The train travels through the Karoo, a vast semi-desert region that was once an enormous inland sea. After lunch on the train, there's a chance to disembark at Whitehall Siding and walk with a member of the train staff into Matjiesfontein (approx 3 miles). Alternatively, continue by train into this historic and authentically preserved Victorian village, which boasts an impressive museum on the platform. An hour after leaving Matjiesfontein, the train arrives at the first of four tunnels on the pass, and later this evening, it travels down the escarpment towards Worcester.
Day 4 Matjiesfontein/Cape Town: The train proceeds south through the Hex Valley and arrives into Cape Town at 10am. After disembarkation, you will be transferred to your hotel.
Day 5 Cape Town: Time at leisure to explore independently.
