One of Bali’s best beaches, Jimbaran is an appealing crescent of white sand and shimmering blue sea, which while is now an extravagant neighbourhood of luxury resorts, there remains a strong local community presence. The bay is sheltered by a coral reef and its tranquil waters are ideal for swimming. For a fascinating glimpse of local life, be sure to visit the daily fresh food market or if you’re up early you can watch the fishermen returning with their catch. Alternatively, each evening a long string of fresh seafood stalls line the beach giving you the option of dinner on the beach.
Nearby is the sacred Uluwatu Temple, which perches atop the picturesque cliffs and is a lovely spot to watch the sunset, or Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park, where you can learn more about Bali’s heritage through cultural performances, and immense sculptures including a giant statue depicting the Hindu god Vishnu atop a mythical eagle.

While April to October is considered the best time, there is never a bad time to travel to Bali, as it’s generally warm throughout the year. Although more rain tends to fall from November to March, it’s usually a short, tropical downpour.
