East Bali 1 night
SeaTrek 6 nights
Day 1 Bali: Meet for breakfast in South Bali before a tour of East Bali during which you'll visit water palaces and ancient villages, see lush rice terraces and jungles along with the island's volcanic peaks. In the late afternoon reach your beachside resort where you can unwind, swim or take a snorkelling lesson with your tour guide. This evening, join fellow guests for a welcome dinner in the hotel restaurant.
Day 2 Bali/Cruise: Watch across the beach this morning as your authentic wooden sailing ship emerges from the many small traditional 'jukung' fishing boats. Your ship and floating home for the next few days will first bring you along the coast to a local fisheries and coral conservation project. Return to the boat for lunch and begin your journey across the famous Wallace Line, a deep-sea boundary that separates Asia's and Australia's biological systems. Later, snorkel above the incredibly diverse and beautiful corals.
Day 3 Lombok area: Wake up off the coast of a small island under the gaze of Lombok's towering Mt Rinjani, the largest volcanic peak in Indonesia, and spend the morning swimming, snorkelling and exploring. Visit a village of the famous Bajao 'Sea Gypsies' of Southeast Asia and see how they live their lives so close to, on and in the water.
Day 4 Sumbawa: Wake early off the northern coast of Sumbawa, where you can hope to swim with a group of whale sharks. These massive, but harmless animals, have long congregated here and have formed a mutually beneficial alliance with the local fishermen who have their fishing platforms in the bay. Thanks to visits by SeaTrek, the fishermen are paid a healthy fee for spotting the whale sharks and letting guests in the water by their platforms and as a result the fishermen are very glad to protect these endangered animals.
Later, swim, snorkel, kayak and paddleboard in the crater lake on Satonda Island and this evening, enjoy sunset cocktails whilst watching thousands of giant fruit bats emerge from forest lairs and fly out on foraging missions.
Day 5 Offshore islands: Step ashore on an active, smoking volcanic island and walk around a small village to get a feel for the islander's simple way of life, chatting with them and maybe buying some handmade textiles as a memento. Later, snorkel on a colourful and vibrant coral reef above small geothermal fissures where air bubbles are released from the volcanic chambers below the seabed. After a few hours under sail, spend the afternoon on a deserted white sand beach on another volcanic island, this time an extinct one. Explore the magnificent coral gardens, hike to the crest of the surrounding hills for a view of the nearby islands, swim, paddle, kayak or simply laze away the day.
Day 6 Komodo National Park: Arrive in the most northerly part of Komodo National Park for a morning of sea-based activities including a fantastic drift snorkel over the reef, kayaking and paddleboarding at an uninhabited island. You'll also swim with majestic manta rays as they feed on the current and circle the so-called cleaning stations. Spend the late afternoon on an isolated sand bar for snorkelling, swimming and relaxing with cool drinks on the sand.
Day 7 Rinca Island: Go on a morning trek in search of Komodo dragons, the world's largest lizard. You may also see monkeys, deer, pigs, buffalo and a myriad of birds as you walk through the forests and savannas. Snorkel at a nearby island that is a favourite hang out of sea turtles, where you can glide with these gentle creatures as they cruise above the technicolour reef. This evening, enjoy Indonesian hospitality as your crew put together a beach barbecue on a deserted island.
Day 8 Cruise/Bali: Cruise into harbour and take a short drive to a traditional village. Here, enjoy hospitality with coffee, betel nut and a highly potent local 'arak' (not for the faint hearted!), before being treated to a selection of traditional dances. Return to the boat for a leisurely lunch before disembarking and transferring to the airport for your flight back to Bali and onward journey.
