Day 1 Adelaide/Robe: Depart Adelaide and stop at McLaren Vale, one of South
Australia’s wine regions to sample some of the wines. Continue through
Coorong National Park which has sand dunes, lagoons and wetlands plus a great
variety of birds, animals and fish, before reaching the pretty seaside town
of Robe (approx 4.5hours). Day 2 Robe/Warrnambool: Take a scenic walk around the town, marina and out to the lighthouse. Continue slightly inland through Mt Gambier, then head back to the coast and through quaint Port Fairy before reaching bustling Warrnambool (approx 4.5hours). Day 3 Warrnambool: Day at leisure to explore Warrnambool or take a tour to Halls Gap on the edge of the Grampians National Park Day 4 Warrnambool/Apollo Bay: Depart for a full day along the ‘Great Ocean Road’ viewing the famous Twelve Apostles. Up to 140 feet high these giant rock stacks are a spectacular sight. Continue through the national park to Port Campbell and via Cape Otway to Apollo Bay. Look out for koalas sleeping in the trees overhead and stop en route at Cape Otway lighthouse for spectacular sea views. From here the road hugs the coast through to Apollo Bay (approx 3 hours) Day 5 Apollo Bay/Melbourne: Depart for Lorne, a popular resort with great beaches and bush walks. Travel further north through the surfing town of Torquay, and then Geelong with its botanical gardens, museums and waterfront area. Continue to Melbourne and return your car (approx 3 hours). |
