Duration: 2 nights self-drive tour
Price from: £189pp
Day 1 Sydney/Hunter Valley: Collect your hire car and head inland to the Hunter Valley and your chosen hotel in Pokolbin in the centre of the region. Perhaps call in to the Hunter Valley Visitor Information Centre where guides and maps are available. After checking-in to your chosen hotel, take a stroll around Pokolbin, which is where wine production in the region began. Boasting over 60 restaurants and eateries, the area is a haven for foodies, so your only dilemma is choosing where to eat!
Day 2 Hunter Valley: No visit to the region would be complete without a tour of a winery to discover the process involved in getting the fruit from the vine into the bottle - and of course tasting it too! You will find numerous cellar doors to visit, many with options for lunch too. Perhaps hire a bike and explore further afield, take a stroll around Hunter Valley Gardens or visit any number of local food producers to sample fresh handmade cheeses, olives, local jams and handmade chocolates. You may prefer to indulge with a massage or beauty treatment at one of the relaxing day spas, work on your handicap with a round of golf at one of the championship courses or, head off with a gourmet picnic hamper from a local store and soak up the glorious scenery.
Day 3 Hunter Valley/Sydney: Time for final sightseeing before you return to Sydney where the tour concludes. Alternatively, why not consider adding on a few days in the Blue Mountains, see page 38.
Departures: Daily from Sydney.
Accommodation: Choice of the Hunter Valley Resort (Hunter room) or Spicers Guest House (queen room).
Meals: Room only at Hunter Valley Resort; breakfast at Spicers Guest House.
