Day 1 Sydney/Kiama: Leave Sydney heading south along the coastal road to Kiama, a pretty seaside town made famous for a blowhole that can spout over 200 feet. Explore the town and the towns nearby, such as Nowra known for its pristine beaches, or go fishing or take in a round of golf. This evening, why not try a fantastic seafood dinner in one of the restaurants (approx 2 hours).
Day 2 Kiama/Merimbula: Travel further south along the coast to Jervis Bay, and onwards to Wreak Bay, a popular spot for surfing. Continue to picturesque Merimbula, a fishing town where you can enjoy surfing, boating, fishing and golf, or take a trip to Gago Island, or join a whale watching cruise (Apr-Jun) (approx 4½ hours).
Day 3 Merimbula/Lakes Entrance: Drive out of New South Wales and into Victoria where you will enter Lakes Entrance which is a popular centre for water based activities (approx 3½ hours).
Day 4 Lakes Entrance: A full day at leisure to explore the Lakes region with Ninety Mile Beach, Lake King, Lake Victoria and Lake Wellington. Alternatively head inland to Mitchell River National Park where you'll discover impressive scenery, serene rainforest gullies, rugged landscapes and a vast array of indigenous flora and fauna.
Day 5 Lakes Entrance/Melbourne: Travel on to Melbourne via Sale which is the gateway to the Lakes region. Stop here and take a walk on the boardwalk, a boat trip on the lakes, go fishing or while away the time in a deck chair before heading west to Melbourne where you will drop off your hire car (approx 4 hours).
