Day 1: Fly to Colombo.
Day 2 Colombo/Negombo: Morning arrival, drive to Negombo and enjoy the day relaxing by the pool (approx 20 minutes drive).
Day 3 Negombo/Habarana: Departure to the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, a conservation and educational centre. Drive to Habarana and on arrival enjoy time at leisure (approx 95 miles/3½ hours drive).
Day 4 Habarana: Morning drive to Sigiriya where you can climb the 5th century rock fortress. Visit the world-renowned frescoes of the 'Heavenly Maidens' of Sigiriya, which are in a sheltered pocket of the rock approached by a spiral stairway. This afternoon drive to Minneriya National Park for a jeep safari. Minneriya is home to significant numbers of elephants, which can often be seen at close range. In addition, the park is home to around 160 species of birds along with numerous amphibians, reptiles, fish and butterflies.
Day 5 Habarana: Day at leisure to relax.
Day 6 Habarana/Trincomalee: Drive to Trincomalee on the east coast. Rest of the day at leisure (approx 70 miles/3 hours drive).
Days 7/8 Trincomalee: Two days at leisure to unwind by the calm azure waters, enjoy the numerous watersports or visit nearby sights.
Day 9 Trincomalee/Kandy: After breakfast drive to Kandy. The rest of the day will be at leisure (approx 130 miles/5 hours drive).
Day 10 Kandy: Visit the Royal Peradeniya botanical garden, first built by a Sinhala king and then expanded by the British. This afternoon enjoy a city tour of Kandy Town, the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings and a World Heritage Site. Drive around Kandy Lake, visit the bazaar, the arts and crafts centre and a gem museum. This evening visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic and see a cultural show.
Day 11 Kandy/Nuwara Eliya: Visit a tea plantation and factory, where the best tea in the world is produced. Continue to Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka's most popular hill resort. Lying in the heart of Sri Lanka's tea country (approx 60 miles/3½ hours).
Day 12 Nuwara Eliya: Early departure for Horton Plains, an expanse of misty grassland with scraggy trees and icecold rivulets. Visit the World's End, considered the finest view in all of Sri Lanka, where the awesome escarpment drops vertically for about 4,000 feet, hence its name. The park shelters mammals such as leopard, bear monkey and is famous for its endemic lizards, whilst also being home to over 20 bird species including the Sri Lanka Whistling Thrush, Orange-billed Babbler and Yelloweared Bulbul. The remainder of the day will be at leisure.
Day 13 Nuwara Eliya/Colombo: Depart for Colombo via Kitulgala (approx 130 miles/5 hours drive) passing the St Clair and Devon waterfalls. Evening is at leisure.
Day 14 Colombo: YYour tour concludes with a transfer to the airport for your onward journey. Alternatively extend your stay at a Sri Lankan beach resort, fly to the nearby Maldives, or stop in the Middle East on the way home.
