Sinharaja 1 night
Day 1 Yala or Udawalawe National Park/Sinharaja: Morning departure by road to Sinharaja (approximately 4½ hours from Yala or 2 hours from Udawalawe National Park). After check-in, this afternoon set off on a trek within Sri Lanka’s only remaining primeval rainforest. The many layers of vegetation, which is similar to that of the Amazon or Congo, includes rare orchids blossoming. Other than the sound of cicadas chirping, the only other noise is that of rain! There is a huge range of endemic wildlife, especially birds, and many kinds of insects, reptiles and rare amphibians. Return to the Rainforest Ecolodge for time to relax and enjoy the spellbinding views or take a dip in the natural pool found in the middle of the rainforest.
Day 2 Sinharaja/Southern beach resort or Colombo: This morning, you will proceed on another trek within the Sinharaja Rainforest, in search of the extraordinary flora and fauna that is found here. The density of the forest makes it difficult to spot wild animals, although leopards, elephants and deer do roam here. You’re most likely to see lizards, snakes (most of them are harmless), birds, monkeys, lots of butterflies, wild plants and insects.
The tour concludes with a transfer to your choice of southern beach resort or Colombo and includes a stop en route in Galle. Once the chief port of Ceylon, Galle is one of the best-preserved colonial-era cities in Southeast Asia and has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
Departures: Daily from Udawalawe National Park or Yala National Park. Tour also available from Galle, Colombo or your chosen southern beach resort.
Accommodation: Rainforest Ecolodge Sinharaja.
Meals: Half board.
Tour price: The price shown is based on the best value travel dates in low season and includes private hotel transfers, accommodation, sightseeing as outlined and services of an English speaking guide
We highly recommend bringing waterproof clothing for this trek as well as insect repellent. This tour is not recommended directly before or after an international flight.
