Day 2 Atlanta/Asheville: Before you depart why not visit the World of Coca Cola or enjoy a tour of the CNN Studios. Later, take to the road and head for Asheville in North Carolina (208 miles).
Day 3 Asheville: We recommend a drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway where you can stop and soak up the extraordinarily beautiful vistas, or park up and hike one of the numerous trails and paths. Alternatively, visit the impressive Biltmore Estate, home to the Vanderbilts, which has 250 rooms set amidst four acres of grounds (pre-bookable admission tickets available). In the artsy downtown area of Asheville there are lots of local shops and boutiques along with a tasty selection of restaurants and coffee shops.
Day 4 Asheville/Charlotte: Head east for North Carolina’s largest city, Charlotte. The Uptown district is the place to find the city’s most popular museums including Discovery Place along with some great restaurants. Alternatively, make a pit stop at the NASCAR Hall of Fame (130 miles).
Day 5 Charlotte/Myrtle Beach: Leave the big city behind and bear south towards the coast. Options for breaking your journey include Wadesboro, which has a thriving arts community and vibrant business district, or charming Latta which is known for its Victorian style homes (175 miles).
Day 6 Myrtle Beach: A full day to sit back and enjoy the 60 miles of coastline with its white sands and sparkling waters. You will also find over 100 golf courses in the area, plenty of options if you need some retail therapy and you definitely won’t go hungry with a superb array of eateries.
Day 7 Myrtle Beach/Charleston: Follow the coast further south to the historic city of Charleston, which has curb appeal galore thanks to its impressive veranda-fronted mansions and atmospheric streets (96 miles).
Day 8 Charleston: Tour the city by horse-drawn carriage before strolling through the French Quarter and then head for the City Market, which serves as a hub for shopping, sampling and socialising. Art lovers can browse galleries throughout the city while foodies can indulge in authentic Southern fare.
Day 9 Charleston/Savannah: Drive onwards into Georgia for Savannah, the oldest city in the state and the location of one of the largest National Historic Landmark districts in the USA (150 miles).
Day 10 Savannah: Explore this beguiling city which brims with Old World glamour and romance, antebellum mansions and magnolia trees, horse-drawn carriages and ships sailing up the river. Don’t miss the 24 historic squares including Johnson Square and Reynolds Square, while River Street is a great place to stroll with its numerous restaurants, shops and galleries.
Day 11 Savannah/Macon: Drive west to Macon, a city jam-packed with culture, history, incredible architecture, stunning Southern charm and a soulful musical heritage (166 miles).
