Day 1: Fly to Houston. On arrival collect your car and make your way to your hotel.
Day 2 Houston:: America’s fourth largest city brims with world-class dining, arts, shopping and nightlife. During your stay be sure to explore the historic Heights, stroll the Museum District or head to the fascinating Space Centre Houston (home to NASA’s Mission Control).
Day 3 Houston/Galveston: Perhaps shop at the Galleria Mall before you set off for Galveston, a thin strip of an island in the Gulf of Mexico. If you like to keep busy, you’ll find lots of outdoor adventure activities here including kayaking, deep-sea fishing, golfing and more (53 miles).
Day 4 Galveston: Stroll along The Strand, an avenue of 19th century warehouses now housing shops, restaurants and art galleries. The city has a storied past and you can uncover some of this at the 1892 Bishop’s Palace, Ship to Shore, or along the self-guided Freedom Walk. If that’s all too much effort spend time relaxing on the 32 miles of sun-soaked beaches which are within easy reach of the city. Check out also The Grand 1894 Opera House, which presents a year round schedule of performances.
Day 5 Galveston/San Antonio: Before you head west towards San Antonio why not share the adventure of the high seas with a visit to the Texas Seaport Museum, home of the celebrated 1877 tall ship Elissa (247 miles).
Day 6 San Antonio: This captivating city is rich in history, bursting with culture and booming with modern attractions. Don’t miss the Alamo with its interactive tours and exhibits, see San Fernando Cathedral or head to the Tower of the Americas. Other popular attractions include the San Antonio Zoo and Aquarium, and Six Flags Fiesta Texas. In the evening feast on flavoursome Tex-Mex cuisine and soak up the nightlife along the magnificent River Walk.
Day 7 San Antonio/Austin: Explore the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park or admire the collections at the San Antonio Museum of Art. Alternatively, visit the spectacular Natural Bridge Caverns, the largest commercial caves in Texas boasting more than 10,000 different stalactitic formations. Continue your journey with a short drive to Austin (80 miles).
Day 8 Austin: Along with over 250 live music venues and a vibrant arts scene, Austin boasts a ballet, world-class museums, great shopping and beautiful outdoor spaces. Spend the morning paddling on Lady Bird Lake then pop into the celebrated History Museum; see the impressive State Capitol or the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum. Explore also Austin’s diverse entertainment districts, from Downtown to Sixth Street and Red River, with its trendy shops, restaurants and live music venues.
Day 9 Austin/Wildcatter Ranch: Leave behind the big city and plot your course for the North Texas Hill Country, for a ranch stay (228 miles).
Day 10 Wildcatter Ranch: Reconnect with nature and enjoy some fabulous outdoor activities, including a group trail ride, guided hikes, clay pigeon shooting and archery. There’s also an infinity edge pool overlooking the Brazos River where you can unwind and feast your eyes on the glorious natural landscapes.
Day 11 Wildcatter Ranch/Dallas: Bid farewell to the ranch and drive to Dallas (116 miles).
Day 12 Dallas: Take advantage of free transportation options throughout the city as you discover Dallas’ shopping, sports, museums and nightlife. There’s the M-Line Trolley in Downtown or the D-Link DART free shuttle. Alternatively, head to neighbouring Fort Worth to stroll the historic stockyards and see a live rodeo (Friday and Saturday only).
Day 13 Dallas: Return your car at the airport for your onward journey.
