California Wine Country
Duration: 2 nights self-drive tour
Price from: £499pp
Napa Valley or Sonoma 2 nights
Day 1 San Francisco/California Wine Country: Collect your hire car and head north for about an hour to the Napa Valley, long considered California’s most famous wine region, or Sonoma for a more intimate experience. Boasting hundreds of wineries from rustic to regal, quaint towns, outdoor activities aplenty, shopping, fine food, music and nightlife, there’s much to see and do.
Day 2 California Wine Country: What better to kick start your Wine Country experience, than with lunch aboard the Napa Valley Wine Train. Hop aboard this vintage train and sightsee as you dine and sample wines. Once back in Napa, why not rent a bike and pedal between the wineries along the Silverado Trail. There are also several museums for exploring local history, art walks in the city of Napa and Yountville, championship golf courses and hiking trails through stunning state parks.
Day 3 California Wine Country/San Francisco: Before leaving, why not book a hot air balloon ride. It’s a unique and inspiring way to appreciate the valley’s lush, rolling hills and gorgeous coastline. Most launch just after dawn and float up in the air as the golden Californian sunshine spreads across the valley. Return to San Francisco where your tour concludes. Alternatively, carry on to Yosemite or down the Pacific Coast Highway?
Departures: Daily. However, Napa Valley Wine train is only available Fri-Sun between Jan-Feb.
Accommodation: At a choice of River Terrace Inn, Napa Valley; Meritage Resort & Spa, Napa Valley; or Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa, Sonoma Wine Country.
