Day 1: Fly to New York. On arrival, make your own way to your hotel.
Day 2 New York City: Experience all that Manhattan has to offer with a guided tour. Catch glimpses of the famous skyline as you absorb the bustle and energy of the city that never sleeps and see for yourself why the Big Apple is truly one of the world’s greatest cities. The evening is at leisure, so perhaps take in a Broadway show (additional expense).
Day 3 New York City/Washington, DC: Start your journey south through New Jersey to Philadelphia, the “City of Brotherly Love” and the birthplace of America. Here your ATI Tour Director will make sure you relive history visiting Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell on a comprehensive city tour. Later, journey onward to Washington, DC. This evening we recommend a night tour of the city, with its many monuments beautifully lit, followed by a dinner in the upmarket enclave of Georgetown (additional expense).
Day 4 Washington, DC: Enjoy an in-depth city tour with highlights such as the US Capitol Building, Supreme Court, Library of Congress, the FBI Building, Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, the White House and Arlington National Cemetery. If you wish you can spend your afternoon outside the city and relive a bit of colonial history at George Washington’s Mt Vernon, estate in Virginia (additional expense). The evening is free for you to explore and grab a drink or dinner where you choose.
Day 5 Washington, DC/York: Head north to the historic Gettysburg Civil War National Battleground, site of the largest battle ever fought on American soil, and President Lincoln’s famous address in 1863. Proceed to Pennsylvania Dutch Country and visit an Amish Museum to see their 300-year-old tradition of simple living.
Day 6 York/Niagara Falls: Travel into the scenic Finger Lakes Region and stop in Corning for a quick visit to the Museum of Glass before indulging in a spot of wine tasting at Watkins Glen, on the shores of Lake Seneca. Then head towards the Canadian border, arriving at one of the world’s natural wonders, breathtaking Niagara Falls.
Day 7 Niagara Falls/Toronto: This morning enjoy time to explore the Falls. Perhaps take a boat ride along the base followed by lunch overlooking the falls (additional expense), or stroll to view the thundering waters of the Horseshoe Falls. Travel on to Niagara-on-the-Lake where you can enjoy the wine that this charming hamlet has become so well known for. In the early evening travel to Toronto, Canada’s largest city and capital of Ontario.
Day 8 Toronto: Enjoy a comprehensive tour of Toronto’s well-known sites and some of its lesser known dynamic neighbourhoods. You may wish to experience exhilarating views from one of the world’s tallest free-standing structures, the CN Tower (additional expense).
Day 9 Toronto/Ottawa: Continue along the 1000 Islands Parkway en route to Ottawa. Perhaps join a scenic river cruise with views of the islands (additional expense). This afternoon tour vibrant Ottawa, a city with many parks and one of the most impressive parliament buildings in the world, which you will be able to visit.
Day 10 Ottawa/Montréal: Begin with a relatively short journey into Québec, to discover Montréal, the region’s cultural capital. Enjoy a leisurely tour of Old Montréal, the area known as the “Vieux Port,” with stops at Place Jacques Cartier & Notre Dame Basilica. In the evening, perhaps join a night tour of the city with dinner featuring unique regional cuisine (additional expense).
Day 11 Montréal/Boston: Travel back to the USA, traversing Vermont and New Hampshire. Arrive in Boston early afternoon for a walking tour along the Freedom Trail which begins at the Boston Common and winds past many significant sites. An optional visit to the USS Constitution Museum is available (additional expense).
Day 12 Boston/New York City: Depart toward Rhode Island and Newport. Discover the opulence of a bygone
era as well as beautiful oceanfront landscapes during a mansion tour before returning to New York City. Here,
we suggest exploring the revitalised downtown area of Manhattan, where you may wish to visit the 9/11 Memorial and Museum or experience America’s tallest and most iconic Freedom Tower (both additional expense).
Day 13 New York City: Your tour concludes as you make your way to the airport for your onward journey.
