Day 1: Fly to Los Angeles. On arrival make your way to your hotel in nearby Long Beach.
Day 2 Long Beach: At leisure. If not happy to relax by the pool, head to Hollywood, Universal Studios or take a stroll along Santa Monica’s pier.
Day 3 Long Beach/Cruise: At leisure before you make your way to the port for a late afternoon departure.
Days 4-5 At sea: Ample time to familiarise yourself with all the wonderful amenities on board the Emerald Princess.
Day 6 Puerto Vallarta, Mexico: This once sleepy town has been transformed into an international resort, with travellers drawn by its climate, excellent shopping and miles of palm-lined beaches. Take a stroll along the Malecon boardwalk, take a boat to the secluded Las Caletas cove, discover how tequila is made at Tequila Hacienda or perhaps snorkel around Isla Marietas.
Day 7 At sea: Laze poolside or treat yourself at the spa.
Day 8 Huatulco, Mexico: This tropical Eden offers crystalline waters, coral reefs and uncrowded beaches. Inland, the rugged coast range is thickly carpeted with rainforest and coffee plantations. Excursions to consider include Santa Cruz Bay, artisanal La Crucecita or Piedra de Moros where local chefs demonstrate regional cuisine.
Day 9 At sea: If lazing poolside isn’t your thing, try out the sports court for a game of volleyball or basketball.
Day 10 San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua: This fascinating country has stunning landscapes, vast cultural treasures and an intriguing history. From strolling the cobblestone streets of colonial Granada on lake Nicaragua, to exploring one of the many volcanoes, Nicaragu something for even the most seasoned traveller.
Day 11 Puntarenas, Costa Rica: Puntarenas is your gateway to Costa Rica’s wonders and to its capital, San Jose. On both coasts, tropical rainforests rise to the mountains of the interior, while in the west a succession of brown-sand beaches form the nation’s Pacific Coast.
Day 12 At sea: Browse the shops, visit the Art Gallery or try out a class to learn a new talent.
Day 13 Fuerte Amador, Panama: Situated at the Pacific entrance to the Panama Canal, Fuerte Amador is a man- made peninsula extending out into the Pacific Ocean. Options here include a cruise on Gatun Lake, an aerial tram ride within Soberania National Park or a ride on the world’s first transcontinental railway, the Panama Canal Railway, a route built during the California gold rush.
Day 14 Panama Canal: Today will undoubtedly be one of the most unforgettable experiences of your voyage as you cruise through the Panama Canal. It takes approximately 8 hours to navigate the 50-mile waterway linking the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, allowing you ample time to fully appreciate one of the 20th century’s engineering marvels.
Day 15 Cartagena, Colombia: This is the land of El Dorado and flamboyant adventurers in search of the ever-elusive gold. Today, this modern and bustling city still boasts much of its original colonial architecture, with the Old City listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Days 16-17 At sea: Take a dip in the pool, unwind on a lounger or revitalise with a soak in one of the hot tubs.
Day 18 Cruise/Fort Lauderdale: Disembark and transfer to your hotel and enjoy time to relax on the beach or explore the shops of Las Olas Boulevard.
Day 19 Fort Lauderdale: Make you way to the airport for your onward journey.
