Day 1 Travel by air to Lerwick
On arrival make your way to your hotel.
Days 2-4 Lerwick, Shetland
Must-see sights in the capital and elsewhere on Mainland include the Shetland Museum and Archives, which brings to life the archipelago's story; the Shetland Crofthouse Museum; the ancient settlement of Jarlshof on Sumburgh Head; the white sands of St Ninian’s Isle; the impressive Iron Age Mousa Broch; the Scalloway Museum; the ruins of Scalloway Castle; and Hillswick, with its small wildlife sanctuary for seals and otters.
Day 5 Lerwick, Shetland/Kirkwall, Orkney
Return to the airport for the 30 minute flight to Orkney. On arrival make your way to your hotel before maybe visiting St Magnus Cathedral, while nearby are the remains of the Bishop’s and Earl’s Palaces.
Days 6-7 Kirkwall, Orkney
Highlights include the pretty town of Stromness and its museum; Skara Brae, one of the most remarkable prehistoric sites in the world; the Heart of Neolithic Orkney, a UNESCO World Heritage Site; the nearby Isle of Hoy which is known for its spectacular coastal scenery and dramatic sea stack, the Old Man of Hoy; and Scapa Flow Visitor Centre & Museum.
Day 8 Kirkwall/mainland UK
Return to the airport for your onward flight to mainland UK.
