Day 1: Fly to Delhi.

Day 2 Delhi: Arrive in the Indian capital, which blends an historic past and a vibrant present. Afternoon at leisure.

Day 3 Delhi: A visit to the Jama Masjid mosque, a bicycle rickshaw ride in Chandi Chowk, then visit Silver Street, the Red Fort, stately government buildings of the British era, the Humanyun's tomb and towering minarets of Qutab Minar.

Day 4 Delhi/Varanasi: Morning 1 hour 20 minute flight to Varanasi, the holy city of India, situated on the banks of the Ganges. Afternoon visit to Sarnath, where Buddha delivered his first sermon. In the evening witness an Aarti ceremony, a very popular Hindu ritual.

Day 5 Varanasi/Khajuraho: Early morning boat cruise on the holy River Ganges. It is a mystical and spiritual experience as you watch people bathing in the holy water, worshipping the rising sun and witness the conclusion of life at a riverbank cremation. Enjoy a tour of the city before taking a one hour flight to Khajuraho a small town with a beautiful mountain backdrop. Evening visit to the Eastern and Western group of famous 10th century erotic temples.

Day 6 Khajuraho/Jhansi/Agra: Depart by road to Jhansi, en route visiting Orchha, a town steeped in history and famous for its palaces and temples dating back to the 16th and 17th centuries (approx 113 miles, 5-6 hrs drive). Later, take a train to Agra.

Day 7 Agra: Morning visit to the Taj Mahal. Whilst the domed marble mausoleum is its most familiar component, it is actually an integrated complex of structures. Continue with a visit to Agra Fort.

Day 8 Agra/Jaipur: Morning departure by road to the pink city of Jaipur, en route visiting the deserted city of Fatehpur Sikri which has an immaculately preserved inner citadel with some fine monuments (approx 147 miles 6 hours drive).

Day 9 Jaipur: Morning visit to the top of the magnificent Amber Fort. Afternoon tour includes the imposing City Palace, the ancient Observatory and exotic Hawa Mahal (Palace of the Winds) a stunning palace with a pyramid shaped facade and a staggering 953 small window panes complete with lattice work, miniature balconies and vaulted roofs all of which are exquisitely designed and engraved.

Day 10 Jaipur/Udaipur: Early morning flight via Delhi to Udaipur, a beautiful city set amidst the Aravali Hills. At leisure to relax at your hotel or further explore this romantic city of lakes.

Day 11 Udaipur: Morning at leisure to relax. Afternoon tour of Udaipur, including the imposing City Palace which towers over the lake and used to be the winter retreat of the Maharajah, Jagdish temple, the pleasure garden and a drive around the nearby lakes.

Day 12 Udaipur/Mumbai: Morning at leisure to relax. Evening one hour flight to Mumbai, a fascinating city with a wealth of art deco and grand colonial relics, warrens of bazaars and the centre of India's film industry, Bollywood.

Day 13 Mumbai: Morning sightseeing tour highlighting some of the city's great landmarks including the Gateway of India which faces Mumbai Harbour and was built to commemorate the 1911 royal visit, the Prince of Wales Museum, colourful Crawford Market, Elephanta Island, Malabar Hill and the Haji Ali Mosque.

Day 14 Mumbai: Afternoon transfer to Mumbai airport for your onward journey.

Optional walking tours available. Walk behind the Taj Mahal in Agra and, in Jaipur, enjoy a walk mixing with the local people. Please ask for details.
