This sea-bound kingdom is a place of rich history and tradition where you will hear stories of giants and fairies, be captivated by ancient Viking ruins, ride an impressive network of heritage railways and always receive the warmest of welcomes.
The island’s capital, Douglas, is the main hub for shopping and entertainment as well as the beginning of the Story of Mann trail which acts as your guide to the island’s heritage attractions. Horse-drawn trams “clip clop” along the two miles of Douglas Promenade and the town is also the starting point of the Steam Railway and Manx Electric Railway, which lead south and north respectively.
Around the island, Castletown has one of Europe’s best-preserved medieval castles - Castle Rushen; Laxey is where you can glimpse the world’s largest working waterwheel - Lady Isabella; Peel and Port Erin have glorious sandy beaches and sheltered bays; and Ramsey boasts an impressive working harbour.
Come rain or shine the island is a playground for outdoor adventure. Take to the emerald waters aboard a kayak or stand-up paddleboard, get your pulse racing with coasteering or a thrilling trike tour, try a spot of golf or, slow the pace and marvel at majestic landscapes along coastal paths, country lanes and within 18 National Glens.
Food and drink are vital ingredients of any holiday and the island’s wide variety of eateries tempt with handpicked vegetables, home-reared Loaghtan lamb, freshly caught queenies, lip-smackingly good ice cream and so much more.
