Fly to Las Vegas in neighbouring Nevada, where you have a couple of nights to enjoy the bright lights, casinos, shows, shopping and more. It’s then time to collect your car hire (or motorhome) and driving on to Grand Canyon National Park which sits in Arizona. You’ll have a full day to take in the breathtaking vistas of this UNESCO World Heritage Site, which really has to be seen to be believed. Numerous overlooks provide views of the plummeting canyons, multi-coloured rocks, dramatic cliffs and stunning ravines. It’s truly awesome!
Drive onwards into Utah for Monument Valley, another amazing natural spectacle known for its unique towering sandstone masterpieces. If you can, catch the formations during sunrise or sunset as the play of light and shadow drenches the landscape in an otherworldly glow.
Next, visit Capitol Reef national Park, a lesser-known treasure filled with cliffs, canyons, domes and bridges. It’s full of recreational opportunities including hiking trails and has also been designated an International ‘Dark Sky Park, so after night falls be sure to look up to the painted sky overhead.
Get back behind the wheel and travel on to Bryce Canyon National Park, which may be the smallest of Utah’s “Mighty 5” but certainly packs a big punch. Its iconic hoodoos – otherworldly rock spires striped with orange, pink and red – are quite incredible, and epic hiking trails skirt the plateau rim giving you close up views.
Kanab beckons next, which is surrounded by towering Navajo sandstone cliffs and vistas of sagebrush. Abandoned film sets near town can be visited, it’s also a great base for visiting Lake Powell, a reservoir on the Colorado straddling the Utah and Arizona border.
And, just when you thought you’d seen all the amazing scenery Utah has to offer, you visit Zion National Park. This iconic destination is hailed for its exceptional rock formations, backcountry trails and unique wildlife.
Return to Las Vegas where you have further time to explore and enjoy the man-made attractions before returning back to the UK.
