On arrival in Calgary, you will be transfer by Banff, which is sure to charm. The picturesque charm offers a variety of shops selling everything from souvenirs to high-end fashion and an enticing array of eateries. Winter in Banff National Park gives you the option for all manner of adventure, whether you fancy trying skiing, fat biking or snowshoeing, you’ll find it all here. Of course, you can leave that to others and simply admire the views of the soaring snow-capped peaks as you enjoy a warm soak in the hot springs.
The adventure continues when you reach Lake Louise, where more winter sports can be found, including 4,200 skiable acres of world-class terrain. For non-skiers, there’s the Winter Sightseeing Gondola, snowshoeing, snow tubing and no visit here would be complete without skating on Lake Louise – it’s even lit up at night to make it even more atmospheric!
Winter also shines in Jasper, your next stopping point, as natural ice sculptures create art in the wildest of settings, and stars seem to multiply against a backdrop of the world’s darkest skies. Activities abound, so you can take in the majestic Rockies views from the ski hill, as you skate across frozen lakes or from the comfort of a sleigh ride.
Board the Canadian Train next for an overnight journey, allowing you to rest in comfort as the train does all the work.
The final stop on this winter adventure is Vancouver, an easily walkable city which allows you to really get a feel for the city, particularly the meandering oceanside pathways which surround Vancouver's favourite neighbourhoods, including Stanley Park. Other top spots for exploration include the West End, Gastown, Yaletown and Chinatown. Wherever you choose to wander, you'll find ample places to stop off for a warm drink and bite to eat.
