USA entry requirements:
You must be in possession of a machine readable passport. Infants and children must have their own passport. Anyone born in the USA, or who holds dual nationality, must travel on a US passport.
All travellers to the USA must either have an electronic travel authorisation (ESTA) or a visa depending on qualifying criteria. In either case, they must be obtained before departure. This requirement applies even if you are only in transit in the USA en route to another country.
If a child (17 and under) is travelling unaccompanied, with only one parent or someone who is not a parent or legal guardian, they will be asked on arrival to provide written consent to US Customs and Border Protection from both parents, or the parent who is not accompanying the child. The Visa Waiver Programme (VWP) allows most British Citizen passport holders to visit the US for up to 90 days. If you are eligible to enter the USA under the VWP, you will need to apply for an ESTA online before you travel. The types of journey permissible under the VWP include tourism, certain types of business visit and transit to another country.
