Classic Ontario by Motorhome

Just a few hours north of Toronto is the iconic Algonquin Provincial Park, an outdoor gem known for its rugged beauty, beautiful lakes, rivers and unspoiled wilderness. Excellent hiking trails allow access to some of this wild terrain and vary from around a mile to multi-day treks for avid hikers. Some are along flat trails or boardwalks while others follow a more challenging route that climb over ridges to outstanding lookouts. Wildlife to watch out for includes moose, white-tailed deer, black bear, beaver and even wolves; there are also more than 260 bird species in the park. The park is also perfect for canoeing enthusiasts with a network of over 1,300 miles of canoe routes. In winter, there is still much to do, with activities such as skiing and dog-sledding.

Also north of Toronto is Muskoka, a quaint and charming region affectionately known as Canada's cottage country. During the summer, visitors flock to the many picturesque lakeside locations to enjoy swimming, boating, kayaking, fishing, hiking and much more. The region is also known as a top golf destination with dozens of hidden gem courses or perhaps you'd rather discover the burgeoning craft brewery scene. For those who love to dive into the past, Muskoka features ten museums showcasing the fascinating heritage of the surrounding area.

In south eastern Ontario on the shores of the St Lawrence River lies the historic city of Kingston. No matter the season, downtown brims with activities, festivals, shops and eateries, and as Kingston boasts more restaurants per capita than nearly any other city in Canada, you certainly won't go hungry. The city's 20 museums and historic sites include the Fort Henry National Historic Site, a 19th century British fortification and UNESCO World Heritage Site; and Kingston Pen, for a unique behind the scenes look at one of North America's most infamous prisons.
