Chiang Mai, the “Rose of the North”, is the region’s hub and a laid back place to hang out or use as a base, if heading to the hills for trekking, rafting and other soft adventures.  If temples are your thing, Chiang Mai has lots, including the impressive Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, Wat Phra Singh and the massive Wat Chedi Luang. The area is also rich with cottage industries and you can visit workshops to watch artisans at work, then head to the bustling Night Market to haggle for handicrafts and souvenirs, and feast on authentic Thai cuisine.

Thailand’s most northern city, Chiang Rai, is gateway to the infamous Golden Triangle, where Thailand, Laos and Myanmar (Burma) meet. Along with a relaxed pace and array of beautiful temples, Chiang Rai is also a launchpad to the surrounding mountains, hills and forest parks. If trekking isn’t for you, take a stroll by the Kok River where you’ll even find a stretch of sand, or simply shop for hilltribe handicrafts, souvenirs and clothing at the Weekend Walking Street Market or Night Bazaar.

Hemmed in by high mountain ranges, sleepy Mae Hong Son nestles remotely in a pretty valley near the Burmese border. Trekking is a major attraction and a terrific way to appreciate the superb scenery and visit some of the hilltribes that inhabit the area, each with their own unique style, language, customs, traditions and cuisine. Mae Hong Son also has several temples, including the striking Phra That Doi Kong Mu.  Set high up on a hill overlooking Mae Hong Son, visit at dawn to see the town bathed in mist or later in the afternoon for far-reaching views.

Luxury tent Full board & activities

Two of Elephant Hills' camps (Elephant Camp and Rainforest Camp) are set within Khao Sok National Park, which was established as a national park in 1980. Stretching for 250 square miles it is one of Asia's premier natural wonders. While much of the park is carpeted in verdant rainforest, it's also comprised of vast limestone mountains that dominate the view at every turn, deep valleys, tumbling waterfalls and breathtakingly beautiful lakes. The park is filled with an incredible array of wildlife such as wild elephant, monkeys, gibbons, bears, porcupine and deer; many of which are quite elusive. Reptiles and insects are in abundance along with several species of bird, including the hornbill, and rare flora including the world's largest flower Rafelesia.

Elephant Hills are Thailands first luxury tented camps and include a variety of award-winning soft-adventure nature tours. The symphony of the birds and animals calling each morning is an ideal alarm clock to rouse you for the day’s activities which may include a canoe safari, jungle trek or, memorable ethical elephant experience, where you get to meet the elephants at the natural elephant park.

Elephant Camp is situated close to the jungle of Khao Sok National Park while the Rainforest Camp is located on one of Thailand's most spectacular lakes which is surrounded by rainforest and towering limestone mountains. At each camp, you'll stay in luxury tents featuring ensuite bathrooms and handmade furniture crafted by local artisans.

From November 2022, Elephant Hills will also have a third camp, Bush Camp, which will sit on the Ping River near Chiang Mai in Northern Thailand.

With animal welfare and conservation at the heart of what they do, Elephant Hills has received numerous awards and accolades from worldwide associations such as Global Spirit and National Geographic.

Fascinating, intoxicating and chaotic, Bangkok deserves at least 48 hours to experience its temples, palaces, markets, malls and street food.

Undoubtedly the city’s most famous landmark is the dazzling gold-spired Grand Palace complex, formerly the Thai royal family’s residence but now used for ceremonial events. Other notable temples include exquisite Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn) and Wat Pho, home to the gigantic Reclining Buddha.

The Chao Phraya River adds zest to the city landscape with its backdrop of temples and hotels. It’s a constant hive of activity with water taxis and longtail speedboats whizzing along, or heavily laden barges chugging sedately upstream. A network of criss-crossing canals (klongs) lead off the river and trickle past precariously perched houses, floating villages and markets.

On land, the skytrain and subway are your best way to get around, although no visit would be complete without a hair-raising tuk-tuk ride.

Whether you’re looking to snag a bargain or splurge on designer labels, shopping in Bangkok is a day and night activity not to be missed. Top spots include MBK Centre, CentralWorld, The Emporium, Siam Paragon, Chatuchak Market, Asiatique the Riverfront and Chinatown. In addition, tours to floating markets just outside the city are also recommended.

Another big draw is the food, with over 50,000 places to eat. From humble street stalls with their aromatic aromas to classy fine dining restaurants, there’s always tasty treats on the menu.Nightlife in Bangkok has evolved over recent years with the emphasis now firmly on swanky rooftop bars with panoramic views, chic nightclubs and lively jazz lounges as well as microbreweries and hip cocktail bars.
