The smallest of the seven Emirates, Ajman lies on the west coast just north of Dubai. Its coastline is rimmed with luxury hotels, each with their own private stretch of uncrowded white sands, making Ajman a perfect destination for a relaxing beach break.

Watersports are plentiful, with stand up paddleboards, windsurfing, jet skiing and banana boat rides all on offer. The bustling waterfront promenade, known as the Corniche, is a popular place to stroll or stop for a bite to eat at one of the numerous cafes and restaurants. It’s especially lively at the weekend, when events take place and locals gather for picnics and barbecues. Another great place to wander and dine is Ajman Marina, as well as Marsa Ajman, a palm-lined promenade with a variety of cafes and restaurants.

The Ajman Museum, which is housed in an 18th century fort, provides a compelling glimpse into the emirate’s past and its fascinating artefacts include centuries-old manuscripts, weaponry and models of wooden dhows. Other notable attractions include Aminah Bint Ahman Al Ghurair Grand Mosque, the Ajman Fish Market, Al Murabba Watchtower and Ajman Qubes, where young entrepreneurs have used recycled shipping containers to develop their ideas and set up restaurants, cafes, an art gallery and even a spa.

Also worthy of a visit is Al Zorah National Reserve, a vibrant ecosystem made up of mangroves, turquoise lagoons and sandy beaches. This wildlife haven is home to nearly 60 species of bird including pink flamingo, egret and heron. The best way to explore the mangroves is by kayak, and the calm waters and network of channels make it suitable even for novice paddlers. Al Zorah is where you’ll also find the stunning Al Zorah Golf Club, while families will love Funtastico with its exhilarating variety of rides, attractions and games or, enjoy Ajman Pearl to learn about the pearling industry in the region.

For an authentic shopping experience visit the recently expanded and refurbished Souq Saleh and the Gold Souq, which are part of a heritage path leading from the Corniche to the Ajman Museum. Here, you can shop for souvenirs and gifts whilst wandering among the warren of small shops. Alternatively, the Ajman City Center has a selection of lifestyle and fashion stores along with a cinema and selection of restaurants.

Just 90 minutes’ drive from Ajman is Masfout, a small landlocked enclave surrounded by the Hajar Mountains. Its elevated altitude brings cooler temperatures and the rugged backdrop attracts hikers, outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers. Also close by is Manama, an agricultural district located in the plains at the foothills of the Hajar Mountains and known for its scenery, wild honey and historic fortresses.
