7 nts Swiss-Garden Beach Resort Kuantan, Kuantan

Deluxe garden view room with breakfast

Lying on Malaysia's east coast and facing the South China Sea, Kuantan is the state capital and is surrounded by beautiful beaches, coconut palms and traditional fishing villages. The coastline stretches for 30 miles and includes many popular beaches including the relaxing resort of Teluk Chempedak.

Located just three miles from Kuantan town, Teluk Chempedak has a pristine stretch of sands where you can simply soak up the sun or enjoy the variety of watersports on hand. Beyond the main beach, a number of walking trails head around the rocky promontory, where lush jungle contrasts with the beachfront. There are numerous souvenir and handicraft shops close to the beach as well as some excellent seafood restaurants, pubs and nightclubs.

Within the Kuantan area there are several attractions worthy of a visit, including Panching Caves, Sungai Pandan Waterfall, Cherating Turtle Sanctuary, the limestone cave temple of Gua Charas or the royal town of Pekan, which bursts with pomp and pageantry in October each year in celebration of HRH the Sultan of Pahang's birthday. Alternatively, a Kuantan river cruise takes you through the picturesque mangrove forest reserve that spreads along the Kuantan River, and is home to fascinating varieties of estuarine plants, birds and fish species.

Kuantan's major landmark is the glorious State Mosque, known locally as the Masjid Negeri, with its minarets and grand dome it's easily the most stunning mosque on Malaysia's eastern coast. It dominates the Padang plaza and is particularly impressive at night when it's floodlit in a dramatic fashion, with turrets and spires illuminated for all to see.

The city's oldest streets run from Padang Plaza to the river and where you'll find quite a few restaurants. Seafood is a prominent feature of most menus along with the famous satay however, you'll also find many international options from Cantonese and Szechuan, to Italian and western fast food. Kuantan is famed for its traditional products, including batik-printed textiles and fine carvings, however shopping opportunities can be found all over the city with upscale boutiques and several shopping malls.
