Food & Drink

Finding great places to eat is often one of the highlights of any holiday. On Alderney there are many restaurants and public houses offering variety and giving good value for money with something to suit everyone. There’s always something to tempt and tantalise the tasebuds, wherever you happen to end up. Once summer is over you’ve even more delights to sample throughout October with the Fabulous Fifteen Food Festival. It’s the perfect opportunity to celebrate Alderney’s diverse eateries and local produce with theme nights, wine tasting and special deals – a foodie paradise and a real highlight for visitors and islanders alike.

As you’d expect from the ‘jewel of the Channel Islands’ freshly caught seafood features strongly on Sark’s menus; lobster, crab, bass, pollack, turbot and plaice - the list goes on. And meat lovers are in for good food too with pork, beef and lamb all reared on the island. A very popular choice is to take afternoon tea or to call in a local pub for refreshments, and you’ll have no trouble working up an appetite or a thirst, during one of the fantastic walks on offer! If you want to experience island life for yourself then Sark Butter and the famously good Sark cream are both very popular and a must for you to try. Taste of Sark takes place in June and is a celebration of the very best food and drink Sark has to offer.

Herm can offer a wide range of dining options with fine dining at a 2 AA Rosette Restaurant, a sandwich at a café on the beach or great fresh pub food, there really is something for everyone to enjoy. For a special dinner, a divine cuisine menu offering the freshest fish amongst its many fine dishes awaits you. If you prefer something a little more informal the popular the Ship Inn Brasserie serves up great food - morning, noon and night. It also creates memorable cocktails! A real must do is tasting a real Herm ice cream - maybe whilst relaxing on the beach during a sun drenched afternoon. June is when the annual Ale & Cider festival takes place at the Mermaid Tavern and offers the perfect chance to sip and sample the local specialties. Add in lively conversation and live music and what could be better!?
