Kyaikhto 1 night
Day 1 Yangon/Kyaikhto: Depart from your city centre hotel and head out of Yangon. First stop is at the Htauk Kyan Allied War Cemetery before continuing to Bago to explore the main market, visit a local monastery to observe the daily lives of the monks and then view the highly venerated Shwemawdaw Paya. Continue to Shwethalyaung Buddha, a huge reclining Buddha, reputed to be one of the most lifelike of all reclining Buddha’s. Proceed onwards to Kyaikhto.
Day 2 Kyaikhto: Today’s sightseeing begins with the Golden Rock, one of the most sacred pilgrimage sites in Myanmar. The giant golden boulder topped with a gleaming stupa appears to defy gravity as it perches on the edge of a sheer cliff at the top of Mt Kyaikhto. During the return journey to Yangon you will visit the Hintha Gon Paya where you can take in the views over Bago from the roofed platform on the hilltop. Continue to 15th century Kyaik Pun Paya, which consists of four sitting Buddhas placed back-to-back around a huge square pillar. Proceed onwards to Mahazedi Paya, originally constructed in 1560 by King Bayinnaung, it was destroyed in 1757 and the reconstruction was only completed in 1982. Stairways lead up the outside of the stupa, and from the top there are fine views over the surrounding area. The tour concludes on arrival at Yangon.
