The facts:

Flight duration: For Fujairah, fly from the UK to Dubai which takes approximately 7 hours. It is then 90 minutes drive from Dubai to Fujairah.

Best time to travel: Fujairah enjoys virtually guaranteed year-round sunshine. Between December to February temperatures average in the mid-20sC, rising up into the 30s from March to April and again from October to November. While the scorching temperatures between May-September may be too much for some (usually in excess of 40C), its one of the few destinations when its cheaper to visit during our school summer holidays, whether travelling with children or not.

Recommended airlines flying non-stop to Dubai: British Airways, Emirates & Virgin Atlantic.

Local time: GMT +4 hours.

Currency: UAE Dirham.

Language: Arabic. English is widely spoken.

Passports & Visas: A full British passport, which is machine readable and valid for six months beyond your return date is required. Visas are not required for full British passport holders for stays of less than 60 days in the United Arab Emirates.

Health: Vaccinations are required and strongly recommended. Your GP will be able to provide you with specific advice on the destinations in your itinerary.

Ramadan: During Ramadan (approximately 15 May-14 Jun 18), it is forbidden to eat, drink or smoke in public places (including hotels and those offering all inclusive) between sunrise and sunset; and no live entertainment is permitted. Hotels usually provide a private area where non-Muslims can eat during the day. Alcoholic drinks are not served in hotels (including those offering all inclusive) on dry days and other days stipulated by the government. Alcohol is available in Dubai hotels after sunset. Please ask for more details at time of booking.

Alcohol: Alcoholic drinks are only available in licensed hotels in Fujairah and the legal drinking age is 21.
