The facts:

Getting there: Kilimanjaro is approximately 12 hours from the UK (via Nairobi); from Kilimanjaro travel 80 miles (approximately 1.5 hours) by road to Arusha, the town where most safaris on Tanzania’s northern circuit start.

Best time to travel: For Lake Manyara July to October is the dry season and the best time to view large mammals, while the wet season (November to June) is perfect for bird watching. The Serengeti offers year-round game viewing; however the Great Migration herds typically inhabit the Serengeti from November to June/July and the river crossings usually occur between July and August. At the Ngorongoro Crater there is good game viewing year-round, as most animals tend to stay in the crater. April, May and November are the wettest months.
